This is my home. The land was purchased in 1998, and construction on the house was begun in 2004, with the pilings and platform (floor and foundation) having been built first. I threw $$ at this project as I could. I was loath to take out a loan to do this. In 2005, the shell was built, windows installed, roof put on, and siding. It had no insulation. electricity or indoor plumbing, but I moved in anyway. I couldn't bear to pay another month of too-high rent in Jersey City, while paying a mortgage on the land, and paying the builder all at the same time. Since then, I have made a firm descision to NOT go on the grid, since having lived in the house in its unfinished state wasn't that hard. And, once again, I didn't want to pay to have electric poles installed, wiring, etc, and find myself obligated to yet another monthly bill. Lighting is with oil lamps and candles, plus a few battery powered LED lights. Water is hand pumped from a dug well. Thanks for visiting! |
